Speaker 2:What's up? Rock fans, I am stoked to be here talking about the Prince of Darkness himself. Rock fans, I am stoked to be here talking about the Prince of Darkness himself, ozzy Osbourne. Mikey D, I am so amazed with the story you shared about your interactions with the Oz. Care to share a bit before we talk about the life of the legend.
Speaker 1:Oh man, where do we even start with Ozzy? The man was a walking legend even in his old age. From Black Sabbath to biting heads off bats literally he's done it all. So my first encounter with Ozzy was in 1991 at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco. At the time I was interning for a local modern rock radio station in San Francisco. That particular evening the show was postponed due to a fan falling to his death. Ozzy and his band were all chillaxing in the green room smoking some good bud. Ozzy asked me if there were some good fast foods in the area and I told him there was a Taco Bell on Market Street. He looked around for what I suspect was his band manager, who was nowhere in sight. So he said hey, mate, care to make a run? I of course agreed. I came back and we were all having a blast with Taco Bell and getting stoned Great times. What a humble man he was. I had one other brief encounter several years later, at a concert.
Speaker 2:OK, first of all, let's address the bat thing. Like, who even does that? You're on stage, you see a bat and your first thought is, yep, this'll taste great. Wow, mikey D, you are such a rock star. I live in England and have only been a spectator at his many concerts. You are one lucky dude.
Speaker 1:To be fair regarding the bat, he thought it was fake, but still legendary move. Only Ozzy could turn that into a career highlight.
Speaker 2:True, but let's not forget the music. Black Sabbath basically invented heavy metal. Paranoid Iron man those riffs are eternal.
Speaker 1:And then he goes solo and drops Crazy Train like it's nothing. That song's the national anthem of headbangers everywhere.
Speaker 2:Randy Rhoads on guitar absolute fire. That solo chef's kiss. But can we talk about the Osbournes for a sec?
Speaker 1:Oh man, absolutely we can. The show that made us all realise Ozzy's just a lovable, confused dad who can't work a TV remote.
Speaker 2:Right. One minute he's the Prince of darkness. The next he's yelling Sharon, where's the damn milk Iconic?
Speaker 1:And let's not forget his resilience. Dude survived addiction falls, you name it. He's like an unyielding mountain, indestructible.
Speaker 2:An unyielding mountain. I'm stealing that, but seriously, his influence is everywhere. Even pop artists today cite him as an inspiration.
Speaker 1:So final question Aussie's greatest contribution music, tv or just being Aussie?
Speaker 2:All of the above, the man's a cultural reset. But if I had to pick crazy train on full blast in my car forever?
