Hello, my beautiful peeps, and welcome to Gut Feeling, the podcast where we delve deep into the complex and fascinating world of gut health. We'll explore different aspects of our digestive system, understand the trillions of microbes living inside us and discover how we can nurture our body's most underrated organ, the gut. I'm your host, dj Tyler, along with my co-host and life coach, shannon Foley. Shannon, before I begin, tell the audience a little about yourself.

Speaker 4:

Hello everyone. First, big shout out to DJ Mikey D for making this all happen and thank you, dj Tyler, for this opportunity to speak on your podcast show. My name is Shannon Foley. I reside in the beautiful state of Colorado. I am a disabled Army combat veteran. I have been involved in the health industry for the past five years. When I ended my Army career, I fell into a depression and began gaining weight. One day I was looking in the mirror and realized that I needed to make a change. Not only with my increased weight change, but my health and little over the course of four years I have lost 76 pounds. The energy I gained back was amazing. I will be discussing more on me later in this podcast discussion.

Speaker 3:

Thank you, shannon, for that introduction and thank you for your services to our great nation. Dj Mikey D mentioned he served with you in the Army some years ago. I tip my hat off to both of you for both of your sacrifice. Before we get into the nitty-gritty, let's talk about the basics. Shannon, in our side discussion you refer to the gut as our second brain. Can you elaborate on what that means?

Speaker 4:

Thank you for that. It means a lot. Yes, I and DJ Mikey D both served while stationed at Fort Carson, colorado, and both deployed to Afghanistan for a long, 13-month tour. Regarding our gut as a second brain, our gut is home to a complex community of microorganisms known as the microbiome. This includes bacteria, fungi, viruses and other microbes that play a crucial role in our health and well-being. The reason I brought this up is due to my health issues that arose during and at the end of my Army career that caused me to have digestive issues. Because of these issues, it kept me from taking care of my health. As a mentor of mine that introduced me to health products that helped me take back control, which I will discuss in greater details later in this podcast.

Speaker 3:

To give us a crash course on the gut microbiome. We're joined by Dr Rhonda Gupta, a leading researcher in microbiology. Dr Gupta, what makes the gut microbiome so vital?

Speaker 1:

DJ Tyler, thanks for having me. The gut microbiome is essential for many reasons it helps us digest food, regulates our immune system and even produces vitamins. It's a delicate balance, though. When the microbiome is healthy, so are we, but when it's disrupted, it can lead to a myriad of issues, including digestive disorders, allergies, obesity and even mental health conditions.

Speaker 3:

That's fascinating. It seems like these tiny creatures play a massive role in our overall health. Now that we know a bit more about the gut microbiome, let's talk about keeping it healthy. Our gut is resilient, but it's not invincible. Dietary choices, lifestyle stress and antibiotics can all impact the delicate balance of our gut microbes. Shannon, can you share some tips on how to protect and nurture our gut?

Speaker 4:

I would have to say prioritize fiber-rich foods. Fiber serves as food for our gut bacteria and it can be found in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds. By eating a variety of these fiber-packed foods, you'll provide your gut with what it needs to thrive. When I was starting out on my journey to lose weight and get my insides right, I used, and still use, Plexus Slim Microbiome Activating. Activating. I like it because it helps support healthy glucose metabolism, helps lose weight and, most importantly, promotes the growth of beneficial gut microbes.

Speaker 3:

Shannon, that is some great advice. It's not just about what we avoid, but also what we include in our diet that counts. It's time for our audience question and answer segment, where we answer questions submitted by you, our listeners. Our first question comes from Brian in Boston. He asks can probiotics really help with gut health or is it just a fad?

Speaker 1:

Brian, that is a great question. Probiotics are live microorganisms that can confer a health benefit. They're found in fermented foods like yogurt, kefir, soykrat and in supplement form. While they're not a cure-all, they can be helpful, especially after a course of antibiotics or to support overall gut balance.

Speaker 3:

Dr Gupta, thank you for participating in our health discussion. It sounds like probiotics could be a valuable addition to our diet. Shannon, thank you for your insight and value. You have added to this podcast discussion as well. You offer life coaching, mentorship, and you are also an associate of Plexus. How can our audience reach out to you and how can they purchase your health products directly from you?

Speaker 4:
