Speaker 3:

This is DJ Mikey D and you are tuned into great day radio's business spotlight. It is our pleasure to interview Amanda Hellebrun, with healthy harvest production based out of Northern Colorado. Amanda, tell our audience about Healthy Harvest Production.

Speaker 2:

Healthy Harvest Productions is a local Colorado family-owned and operated business that distributes, sells and buys non-GMO expeller pressed cooking oils, specifically canola, sunflower, avocado and olive oils. We now also have feed that we are selling that is non-GMO, that we have found great success with animals and are super excited about For our cooking oils. We have two sides to that part of our business. We have the wholesale side and the retail side. The wholesale side well, let's rewind a minute. The biggest difference between the wholesale and the retail is the size of the packaging. Wholesale side we have 35 pound bibs. You can buy them individually or per pallet. Per pallet is 60 bibs per pallet and bib stands for a bag in a box. We also sell gallon jugs and we sell totes that are between 1,500 to 2,000-ish pounds per tote and tinker loads. The bulk of that business for us tends to be restaurants, but we do also provide our services to school districts and manufacturers as well as those restaurants. Our retail side tends to be more gallon jugs and 750 milliliter bottles.

Speaker 3:

All right, that is great information, thank you. I have tasted your many selection of oils. Oh my God, that's some good stuff. If you have not had a chance to oils oh my God, that's some good stuff. If you have not had a chance to experience some of the oils, we will go ahead and post that information in the description of this podcast, so you too can experience the love. So how long have you been in business?

Speaker 2:

We have been in business since 2013. It's been a long road. We've learned a lot, we've grown a lot, we've made a lot of changes and we're very grateful for the changes we've made and that we're going to continue making, and we're excited for the future.

Speaker 3:

Okay, it sounds like you guys are doing something great, having been in business for over seven years, so where are you located at exactly and where do you service at?

Speaker 2:

Our warehouse is physically located in Johnstown, colorado, but we service businesses from Fort Collins all the way down to the southern municipalities in Denver. We deliver oil to restaurants and manufacturers all along the Front Range, and we also work with distributors like Shamrock and Cheese Importers. And then, of course, you can also find our products online as well.

Speaker 3:

All right, that's pretty cool. So I know during the COVID time it's been pretty rough. I know a lot of businesses struggled, especially in the restaurant industry, and I know from experience many downtown Denver restaurants was hit especially hard. Many of them were starting to build themselves up at the time, so COVID impacted a lot of businesses that service these restaurants. So, with that being said, what are your challenges?

Speaker 2:

I would say as a local business, some of our largest challenges are inflation and recession. When inflation hits, it makes the oil more expensive to buy and all the materials that we need in order to package that oil more expensive as well. And when there's recession, people go out to eat less and, as a large bulk of our business is restaurants, that obviously impacts us as well.

Speaker 3:

Well, thank you so much. I really appreciate your insight, amanda. Thank you also for sharing those challenges. It sounds like you have a great plan and looking forward to the future. So what makes Healthy Harvest Production unique?

Speaker 2:

There are a lot of things about our business that I especially love, that I feel makes us unique, from our company culture is amazing to the products that we use, etc. I love that we're a non-GMO company, which means nothing's genetically modified. I love that we are cooking oils are expeller pressed and we don't press them. We buy the oils, but when we buy the oils, we make sure that they're non-GMO and that they are expeller pressed. And if you don't know what expeller pressed is and why, that's important. A lot of times companies let's use sunflower as an example, let's use sunflower seeds They'll take the sunflower seeds and they'll use chemicals to extract all the oils to make sure they can get every last drop of that oil out. Instead of using chemicals, what we do is we expel or press them, which means that we press the seeds as hard as we can, as much as we can, to get as much oil as we can out of them, but we use no oils or no oils, I'm sorry. We use no chemicals to get the oils out of there and we don't heat the seeds. We don't do anything like that. We just press the seeds to get as much oil as we can out and what's left over just stays in the seeds, in that byproduct, instead of using chemicals. And what I really really love about our company, and our business too, is that we try to be environmentally friendly in a lot of ways. We do what we can do for that.

Speaker 2:

When we first started, we used what's called a jib, which stands for jug in a box, but that used more plastic. So we switched over to bibs, which is a bag in a box, because it uses less plastic. We also we buy our sunflower oil the bulk of it from Colorado Mills and I love them. They're a great company here in Colorado, obviously, and they expeller press their sunflower seeds to make the sunflower oil. But what I also really love about them is that they take the byproduct of the sunflower feeds to create a feed for animals and to create horse treats both. And what I love about that is that they've seen a lot of positive results with the animals because it's a high protein feed with high amount of natural fats. They've seen animals keeping on healthy weight and just doing a wonderful job for those animals.

Speaker 2:

So what I love about that is that we are now a part of that feed business as well and we are also selling. That is, that we are now a part of the that feed business as well and we are also selling that feed and we are also selling those horse treats, because I think it's just a great philosophy to have how many businesses do you see that take a product and they use all of it, and they use it to benefit in every way possible. Not only are we taking those sunflower seeds and creating a healthy, nutritious oil for humans to consume, but we're using that byproduct to create a healthy, nutritious feed for animals to consume, for animals to consume. So there's no waste and, on top of that, it's not hurting anyone. It's helping everyone who is consuming that, who is using those products, is what I'm trying to say and I don't think that you find that very often that there's no waste created and that in every way possible that is benefiting someone or something.

Speaker 3:

All right, thank you so much for that information, amanda. So where can our audience find your oils, as well as the horse treats?

Speaker 2:

For our oils. As I said, we have restaurants and manufacturers along the front range. If you're in Boulder or Longmont on the diagonal highway there's a very high end restaurant called Farrow, spelled F-A-R-R-O-W. It's in Niwot and they have amazing food and I've been there only once but it was an amazing experience and I highly recommend it. We also sell our oil to a manufacturing company called Denver Chip Co. They make potato chips that are so good they are in 100 King Supers in Colorado, 20 Hold Foods in Lucky Markets as well, and then they have a list of other places on their website that they also sell their chips at.

Speaker 2:

Zane's Italian Bistro and Restaurant Olivia are both located in Denver. We service oil to them. And then Music City Hot Chicken. I cannot say enough about this restaurant. They have amazing fried chicken tenders, amazing sides. They we service and provide their oil to them, and the original restaurant is in Fort Collins. It's still open down there. They have amazing food. We eat there often. I highly recommend it. And there is a brewing company called Terve T-R-V-E. I'm not I'm sure I'm not pronouncing that right, but it's spelled T-R-V-E. It's in Denver and they also have Music City Hot Chicken there as well.

Speaker 3:

All right, that's great stuff. I know we put out a lot of great information out for our audience.

Speaker 2:

My final question how would our audience? You can find our sunflower, avocado, olive and canola oils and gallon jugs and 750 milliliter bottles on Amazon as well as the Walmart website. We're not in the Walmart stores, but we are on the Walmart website. You can also find our horse treats on and we have had a lot of wonderful feedback about those horse treats so far. There's been some great feedback about those, so I'm really excited about those as well. Thank you so much for having me today and for taking the time to speak with me.
